Riedel Crystal was founded in 1756 -- over 240 years and ten generations ago. Riedel develops new glass shapes to enhance the worlds most exciting and complex beverages at tasting workshops with leading international wine and spirit producers rather than on a drawing board or by computer. Most of Riedels glasses - in a myriad of shapes ranging in size from thimble to fish bowl - were created to highlight the finest characteristics of the particular liquids they would direct onto the palate. That is, each glass was developed for a single individual beverage and therefore has a specific purpose.
Sommeliers
Mouth-blown, 24% lead-crystal. Each glass matched to a specific wine.
Sommeliers is now the wineglass benchmark and the most successful series of hand-made glasses in the world. Each glass is individually made: the upper parts blown into a mould, the stem and base hand-crafted using methods developed at the time of Christ's birth. Our glass-makers invest their talent, know-how and meticulous craftsmanship in making glasses of the impeccable quality our consumers expect. Sommeliers are executed in over 24% lead crystal.
Vinum
Machine-blown, 24% lead crystal. Each glass matched to a specific wine.
These glasses have proved to consumers and restaurateurs that the pleasure of consuming wine starts with the glass. The Vinum collection, developed by Georg Riedel on the principle that the content commands the shape, is the Vitrum-Vinothek" for every day use. Vinum is made of over 24% lead crystal.
Vinum Extreme
Machine- made diamond-shaped crystal.
Vinum Extreme is the latest development in the machine-made "Gourmet Glass Concept" which was first launched in 1986. The inspiration for this development can be attributed to three factors:
- The steady improvement in wine quality and the discovery of the positive health effects of moderate wine consumption caused a wine boom during the 90s.
- As wines become more dense, more concentrated and more perfect, they call for the development of new shapes.
- This glass range reflects the progress that has been made in the features and quality of machine production.
Wine
Machine-made potash.
The "Wine" collection made for customers who feel that plain stemware on a well laid table is just not decorative enough, combines a light catching, decorative stem and Vinum's most popular bowls. Their appearance and price position them as functional, wine-specific machine-blown glasses. "Wine" fills a niche in the market and is executed lead free.
Ouverture
Machine-made potash.
Ideal for everyday use, Ouverture glasses offer perfectly shaped wine glasses at competitive prices. Introduced in 1989, Ouverture is Riedel's uncomplicated beginner series for customers who appreciate good, reasonably priced wine. No types of grape varieties or wine-growing regions disconcert the buyer. Six sizes are made for "drinking pleasure". Ouverture is lead free.
