Fairview, Spice Route & Goats do Roam South African Wine Dinner

Berbiglia was pleased to have a very special wine dinner with our special guest, Mr. Robin Back, Fairview Winery of South Africa. Mr. Back intertained our guest with a great informative talk about the South African culture and winemaking. Not to be outdone, Chef Drue Kennedy of Grand St. Cafe, prepared an outstanding dinner which included a Goat Cheese Flan, Roasted Scallop and Corn Relish, Roasted Duck Breast and Oyster Mushrooms, Smoked Pork Tenderloin with a Cherry Ginger Glaze, Seared Filet of Beef with a Toasted Garlic Gremolata and for dessert Homemade Doughnuts. The wines included Goats do Roam Rose, Spice Route Sauvignon Blanc, Fairview Viognier, Goats in Villages Shiraz/Pinotage, Fairview Pinotage, and Spice Route Flagship Syrah. This was one of our finest dinners! We want to thank Mr. Robin Back and Chef Kennedy for an outstanding dinner.
If you have not been to Grand St. Cafe lately, try it ! The cuisine is outstanding!

What kind of grape is pinotage?
TO ALL: PINOTAGE IS A GRAPE THAT WAS BRED BY CROSSING PINOT NOIR AND CINSAUT ( HERMITAGE ). PROFESSOR A. I. PEROLD INVENTED THIS GRAPE IN 1924 AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA. THIS VARIETY BECAME THE BACKBONE OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN WINE INDUSTRY. TRY THE PINOTAGE FROM FAIRVIEW, ITS GREAT!
